It's a new year! Our tiny orb spinning in space has completed another trek along its path. If you agree with Ralph Waldo Emerson (as I often do) that "life is a journey, not a destination," the deep importance of January with regard to life-altering resolutions and the pursuit of new achievements may seem misplaced. For my part, such grand and sweeping declarations don't stick - not because the intentions and motivations aren't there, but because they aren't rooted in anything substantial. Rather than tackling January as a new beast and expecting things to be different, performing a soft reset of my own approach yields better results. And I can perform another soft reset anytime - I don't need to wait for holidays or changes in season to signal moments of recalibration.
I didn't make any resolutions for the new year, but I have a list of tasks I hope to accomplish. Some are mundane but personally difficult. Some are broken into several small pieces to help me build toward a larger achievement. Some have been on my to-do list for years, some are brand new. Whatever you're working toward, remember to take a breath and remind yourself that you are capable.
