Autumn begins with the autumnal equinox in late September, correct? Maybe by 'official' measures. By the meteorological calendar, the first day of autumn is also the first day of September. The four seasons are neatly broken to each contain three months of the year. Following the meteorological calendar in my home reminds me to clean and decorate for each season on a simple schedule, but there's no rush if you haven't finished your summer activities! Depending on your area, the summer weather you enjoy (or loathe) might be around for quite a while.
All this is to say that location and culture are important in storytelling! Things that we experience with regularity can become mundane and unimportant in our minds, but the smallest acknowledgement or descriptor may have the largest impact on a character or how they view something - and so, on how a reader views or understands something.
There is a never-ending well of 'whys' in how we ourselves operate. Whether you need a geographic setting, cultural / social / religious frame, or a mental motivator, don't neglect the root of yourself for inspiration.
Happy Writing!
