Writing Prompt - May 2025

As you've probably noticed by the holidays I highlight each month, I'm a nerd. I was thinking about the events I attend / the media I consume / the things I write, and I realized that everything boils down to the fact that I love digging into what if scenarios. Space exploration & time travel, superheroes, fantasy epics...My favorite genres of storytelling are woven through everything I enjoy and even contributed to my educational pursuits.

I used to worry that I read 'too much' of this type of content; that it skewed my perspectives and expectations. In reality, the extraordinary settings and circumstances served to highlight themes of empathy. Because of what I read, I gained an appreciation for this planet and its people that makes me curious and enthusiastic and hopeful.

Stories are how we relate to the world; how we understand each other and ourselves. If I may quote Leo Tolstoy, "All great literature is one of two stories; a man goes on a journey or a stranger comes to town."
